timing belt on avalon

What can I expect to pay for a timing belt replacement along with all the other "goodies" that should be done also?

I'm having my 100,000 mile tune up done on my '98 avalon, so I need to go to the bank.

Someone mentioned $1,500...............

That price is too high. A few TN members state their Toyota dealer occationally has specials at $199 for a belt change. Was quoted $500 for a 4 banger at the dealer, $750 if the water pump was also changed. Usually items other then the belt are changed at the second belt change say 180K. The job may be cheaper at a non-toyota dealer due to lower parts and labor costs.

Suggest you do a Camry TN history search on this subject as it has come up many times.

timing belt $$$

Actually, it's going to be $2,000! This will include my 100,000 tune up, an oil gasket leak, plus replacing the IAC valve...............along with the water pump and new belts & fluids.

Big $$$, but I'll have the car another 100,000 miles.........I hope!

you should get a second opinion, they probably replacing stuff which doens't need to be replaced, they always do that here in Brooklyn.
It's hard to find a good mechanic who doesn't want to rip you off here but I found one.

you can get the job done cheaper. remember you dont have to do everything all at once. do a little at a time. if you are at 10000, do the belt at 120000. previously before toyota refigured the tbelt maintanence it was every 60000 now it is 90000. ive seen cars go 120000 before getting the first belt done. tbelts on these motors dont break easily, i never saw one of these engines get towed into a dealership with a broken belt. 4 cyl all the time v6 never. i bought a tbelt kit for my girls avalon off ebay for $70, this kit also has idler pulley and tensioner pulley. $200 was to just replace tbelt and that is it, no seals drive belts or water pump. should always do water pump with tbelt, tbelt drives the pump and your already there why do the job twice or pay for it twice. telling you from experience not from what i have heard.
