Check Engine Light 99 Avy XLS

Hey all! Check engine light on my 99 XLS popped on last evening. I took it to the guys I normally use, and tust, but they said that the car didn't have a hook up tyhat would work with thier analyzer and that I would have to take it to a dealer. I'm wondering if it has to be a Toyota dealer or if any dealer would be able to handle it. I must admit that I know little to nothing about such matters, but do want to know what the problem is. Any advice? Thanks!

Your Avalon has a standard OBDII connector, as does any other car sold in this country after '96. Someone at that shop is confused. No need to take it to the dealer for this.
