Gen 1 Stereo

I'm looking at possibly upgrading the stereo in my '95. It has the 6 speaker system with a single disc CD and (I'm assuming) the external amp. Crutchfield has a wiring harness that they sell that specifically says "For 1992-1999 Toyota/Lexus with external amp." I did search and read the thread about the guy that had to run his own wires, and had Crutchfield help him. My question is, is this harness they are advertising now a new and improved version that takes care of that? I really don't want to mess with the wiring at all, it just isn't worth it to me at this point with the car. The main reason I'm looking at changing is to get iPod integration and cure the CD player skipping. There is a chance that I would add a single 10" or 12" sub and external amp later. Thanks for any feedback anyone can give.

A 6-speaker system may or may have a remote amp. Pull the front cover to look at the radio or dig around for the amp. Might be under one of the front seats, behind glove box, passengers kick panel. The easiest way to get info on the Crutchfield harness is to call them.
