My wife has a 1997 avalon xls with the six speaker sytem and amp.After inserting the cd into the player and pressing the cd button,it loads ,but will not play.The player goes to the next cd and does the same thing.The radio plays fine.I replaced both the radio and cd player,but neither solved the problem.I had planned to remove the glove compartment this weekend to check the connector and inspect the amp.,but decided to post this thread instead,hoping that someone else had encountered this problem and found a bad ground wire or something else wrong.tx

Is the CD player below the radio, do the CD’s install into a cartridge that goes into the CD player? Have you tried a different cartridge? If the radio works, the amp should be OK.

Thanks for the reply.The cd player is located above the radio in the dash.It is connected to the radio via a multiconductor cable that plugs into the rear of the radio.I've tried a different radio,cd player,cd cartridge, and cd all to no avail.I sold the car a few days ago,but promised the buyer i'd fix the problem.The buyer has told me she was able to get the [player to operate once over the past two weeks.I can't find a schematic or wiring diagram for the vehicle.i do have a 1999 avalon wiring diagram which doesn't show an amplifier for the six speaker system i haven't really verified that the 1997 has the amp.If it doesn'y,i'm at a loss as to where to look.I's hard to believe that the cd/radio I bought on ebay has the same exact problem I'm trying to solve. tx

1 of the 3 CD detect surface mounted infrared LED's is defective. About $5 each. If you can solder then replace them yourself or take to repair shop.
Diode 7,8, or 9. I'd replace all 3

csaxon.-----Thanks for the reply.Would you recommend the same couse of action if you knew that the problem occurred regardless of which position the cd was in in the cartridge.Also,bear im mind that i replaced the cd player a few days ago and the new (second) one did not resolve the problem. Tx
