1995 Avalon Check Engine Light

I just bought a 1995 Avalon that has the check engine light on. If I pull the EFI fuse, the code goes away for about 15 miles. I have looked under the hood for indications that it may be OBD II but have found nothing that indicates that it is. I have also looked under the dash near the steering wheel for an OBD II plug but have found nothing. How can I find out what code is causing the check engine light to come on without the ability to scan the codes? I have heard that you can flash the codes through the check engine light by jumping two connections but I don't know where the connections are located. Can someone please explain in layman's terms how to check the codes myself? Thanks a lot!

Derek

Your Avalon should be OBD2 (wasn't mandated until 96, but Toyota was ahead of the curve). Look behind the coin pocket infront of the driver left knee. Should be a trapezoidal black connector to hook up a scanner to. There aren't provisions for retrieving codes without one, but most chain parts stores will pull them for free. See what you have and post back.

Qslim, thanks a lot for your post! My avalon doesn't have a coin pocket, but it does have a fuse cover near the driver's left knee. I found the OBD II connector under that cover. Thanks again!
