break lights warning

my 99 avalon has break lights warning light on, on the dashboard even though the lights are working fine.. the light seem to turn on more often in stop and go traffic when I use the breaks more often. There is no pattern that I was able to find yet. Anybody had that problem?

Yes, my car was in a rear end collision before I bought it and the left light gets water in it when it rains or gets washed. Due to water, there was some rust between the contacts. Take off the light assembly, unscrew all lights, and give the holder part a light banging.

When you want sports car handling, you buy a sports car.

I just had that problem in my 96. The warning light would come on, but all tail lights were functioning properly- for like a month.
found out that it was the high mount brake light. the filiment was detached, and that would trigger the warning light, however when I would apply brake it would arc inside and apear to be working. replaced it, and volia!
