Car throwing codes. Need help.

Hi, I have a 97 Toyota Avalon XLS. My car is throwing three codes. They are: P0135, P1705, P0135. There are two P0135 because the O2 sensor is defected in two different reason. It says its Bank 1, Sensor 1. The P1705 has to do something with the transmission. I forgot what it said exactly. My concern is I need to smog my car. I live in California so does O2 sensors matters? Also if someone can help me fix my P1705 codes too that would be great. Thanks.

P1705 Direct Clutch Speed Sensor, see link below for details on this code

http://autorepair.about.com/library/faqs/bl248h.htm

There is only one Bank 1, Sensor 1. Location is on exhaust manifold nearest firewall.

Oh thank you. I'm planning to buy a replacement O2 sensor from autozone. I live in california, would autozone's O2 sensor be able to pass me for smog? Also i'm about to read up on the link you provided but I just want to add that the "trac off" light is on in my car's dashboard. It will not turn off, it stays lit, even when I push the "trac off" button. What could cuase this?

dont buy the autozone o2 , toyotas dont like autozone parts. if you are installing it yourself just buy the toyota one this way you only buy it once. the reason your trac light is on is because the check engine light is on. it is a default/ limp home mode.

Hey guys, there was a link in a previous post above that shows you how to test if a Direct Clutch Speed Sensor. My question is im throwing a code P1705. Would replacing the Direct Clutch Speed Sensor fix my code? Thanks.

edit: later today i went to toyota dealership to do a price check on the two parts. they found the o2 sensor(part # 89467-41021) for $208.92. it took them a while and the best they can find for the direct clutch speed sensor is a "speed sensor"(part # 89413-08020) for $108.43. i would like to know am i looking for the right speed sensor. is there really a thing called direct clutch speed sensor or there is another name for it. im planning to buy the o2 sensor but i'm still stump on how to fix my P1705 code(direct clutch speed sensor).

Dude, look at the link Toyomoho put up in the second post. It's got a diagram of where it is as well as test procedures for checking it.

i wouldnt be asking again if i have found it. i have check the link and under the hood of my car cannot find it. i went to toyota dealership and they dont have any "direct clutch speed sensor" part for an avalon. they only have speed sensor. thats why i'm concern about this issue now. does avalon have direct clutch speed sensors? or do they have a different name?? that link is for a 96ish camry. i would think it be very similar but something is not the same here...

also from the link. when trying to find the direct clutch speed sensor would i be under the car looking up or on top of the car looking down into the engine bay?? sorry for any inconvience but i cannot tell what the picture is saying.

Everything in that link is the same for an Avalon. The clutch speed sensor is on top of the transmission pointing down, fastened by one 10mm bolt. The parts dept probably lists it as a transmission speed sensor. Try part # 8941308020.

Look at the trans and see if has two speed sensors. One should be mounted on top of the differential housing where the axles come out (vehicle speed sensor). The other might be on top of the trans toward the driver side and inline with where the trans main shaft (see photo in link).

thanks for the info. i went outside and took some pictures of the two things i can find on the transmission that i would guess best to be my two speed sensors. i outlined in red at the sensor i saw.

which sensor is this one? to the right of the picture is the rack and pinion and firewall. to the left of the picture is the front of the car.

and which is this one? to the left of the picture is the starter and front of car. to the right of the picture is the firewall.

also i have been facing issues relating to transmission issue and trac off light is staying light up i found this under the dash near the handbrake pedal. after removing the driver's side kick shield and exposing all the wires i see this one wire that seem to be hook onto...well let the picture tell the store....it didnt seem oem to me. so maybe you guys can help me figure out what this is all about.

this is what i looks like. in red i outlined where it was ground, and then plugged into a wire.

closer look of where the unknown wire is plugged into.

the unknown wire travels north upto the gauge area where i cannot see specifically where it goes. it disappear somewhere up there.

i hope all these picture help. thanks in advance for any inputs on trying to help me out.
