1997 XLS Issues
I had this vehicle for 5 years before I had any issues. Now, after having the car for 6 years, I am finally looking for any help to get it back to full function. Any info on one or all issues would be greatly appreciated.
1. Outside temperature reads -22 degrees. Apparently this is the default. I don't know where the sensor is in order to ensure the wiring and such are intact. What is the cost for a new sensor, and again, where is the sensor located?
2. Alternator. Just discovered today my dead battery is due to my alternator not putting out what it should. (probably due to increased load for the 1600 watts worth of amplifiers in the vehicle). How difficult is this to replace? It doesn't appear to be the most accessible alternator, but it doesn't seem like it will be too bad. Any tips before I commit to replacing this myself?
3. Check engine light. Don't know the code, but it goes something like "oxygen efficiency above threshold." It came on about a 1 year ago, but I just haven't committed to getting it fixed yet. I am getting the itch to get it fixed since the traction control automatically turns off with this error code. Thoughts before I spend $50 on diagnostics at the dealer?
This car ran wonderfully for about 5 years for me before I started to have any issues. Apparently, when it rains, it pours. I recently had to take out my drivers seat and manually slide the seat back since that specific power seat motor died on me. Cost is $400 for a new motor. I guess I will be paying a visit to a junkyard at some point.
Something that would help me greatly is a good maintenance repair manual. Anybody know where to get one cheap? Thanks for any help.
