USA 95 Avalon owner

I was given a 1995 Toyota Avalon. It is need of some body work, but engine and everything else is sound. I tend to be a Ford person. But this car was given to me and after driving it for a while I have desided to make it my project car. If anyone has ideas on body kits, ground effects and such I would appreciate you letting me know. Any other ideas as well. I also need a keyless entry remote for it. Thanks for your help.

Don't waste your money, take out the dents, paint it up, put on a nice pair of rims and call it a day. In my opinion, the Avalon isnt the type of car to "rice."

Thanks for the reply, and you are correct. I don't plan on ricing it up. I am use to eating rice burners for breakfast, lunch and dinner in a 500HP Mustang and that was without NOS. Just raw house power. With gas prices and such I had to let it go. You may be right, I would just like to make it look sweet, add some little changes under the hood and make it a daily driver.

When I got my Avalon I got it repainted and had the dents (which were numerous ) taken out. I got a set of used 15 inch alloy wheels from a Solara on Ebay for $250 and mounted the stock tires. The biggest thing I did was install a very good quality sound system consisting of MB Quart components a pioneer deck and an 8 inch sub custom mounted in the rear package tray with 2 MTX amps 1 for speakers and one for the sub. I really enjoy listening to music in my car on the way to work as it is an hour commute, so I deemed the expense to be worth it. I did not do any performance upgrades b/c I think it has plenty of power for street use. I'm sure coming from your mustang you'd beg to differ hehe. If u want a performance upgrade, Toyota sells a factory supercharger for the Avalon and Camry. If I am not mistaken it adds 40 HP. Good luck with whatever you decide to do, If you decide to do the stereo u can PM or Im me, as I have a lot of experience with it.

Thanks I may take you up on that. I enjoy music in my car as I spend a lot of time it during the day. The supercharger maybe a good idea, or maybe a turbo charger. At any rate I will keep you posted on the work I do to it. I did not think I could enjoy an import but I really like this one.

I wouldn't go with the stock supercharger since the only ones you can get nowadays are used and over 2k. They are also roots type, so no intercooling. They do a max of around 10psi with the right pulley, but also with a nice amount of heat.

The turbo is an option, but most setups (Camry) I have seen have you remove cruise control and relocate your battery. The tubing is a little messy since one set of the exhaust ports is near the firewall.

If you are serious about getting some power, you will also have to work on the transmission. I believe it handles something along the lines of 270 lbs of torque or less. So rebuild it and reinforce, or convert to a camry/es300 5-speed manual. Torque converter would be the first thing to look at if keeping it automatic.

For serious power, manual is your best option, since you will probably have to get an aftermarket engine management system (Motec or AEM). I have been looking at probably going this route, with a centrifugal supercharger for forced induction (ProCharge C-2). Takes less space than turbo, and gives you ability to intercool. For this you will have to reinforce the rods/pistons and what not, as the 1MZ-FE is known to be little weak, mainly the rods.

This would be a good read for this. Although it's for an MR2, they are using the engine that's in our car, and go over everything that would be needed for serious power.

So there you go. I'm really thinking about this route, but most people laugh at it. Eventually, when they see it done, it'll be a different story.
