rubber burning smell

I have a 99 avalon with 109,000 miles on it. I recently started getting this smell of burnt rubber. I know this is not oil because oil smells totally different.

My brake light on the dash is on. I replaced both r and f brakes less than a year ago. The fronts sure have a lot of dust on the wheels. I thought the brakes were the issue but when I get down there I can't smell anything. I also notice that the brakes were gringing for awhile but they are not doing it right now.

The Avalon shop said the 02 needs replaced and that I have a small tranny leak.

I get the smell inside the car plus outside. I can not pin point the location of the smell. Has anyone else had this problem?

Maybe have brake fluid leak? I know when it gets low, the light comes on. But don't think it would cause a smell unless you have basically no brake fluid.

If your brake light is on, check the fluid. Then check the sensors and the rubber covered wires for wear/breaks/shorting/etc. Handbrake cable may not be releasing like 1993 said. f&r!

The smell and the light could be two separate problems. Let's get some info before you go flying through an intersection with no brakes!
Burning rubber could be fluid or belts and hoses - frozen pulley, frayed sensor wire rubbing on the rotors,...
Take a look and tell us !
