new fuel tank

I have a hole in my fuel tank and have bought a new one.

I am going to do this myself -
But I'm not sure if the new tank needs to be cleaned inside before its installed. It has an oily film everywhere, to keep it from rusting I guess.

Anyone have experience with this?

Thanks

Unless a lot of oil, the gas should dissolve it OK. If in doubt might flush it out with something not to0 flammable like kerosene. The engine should not have a problem burning some quantities of either substance.

How big a hole? I patched a quarter size hole in a '71 Benz with epoxy and a marine patch kit. Lasted over 12 years when I sold the car.
