Canada Door Operation of Ceiling light

I have just aquired a 1996 Avalon. It is in great shape, it was well maintained. It has 308,000KM on it. The interior ceiling light wont come on when the door opens. The switch works as the light goes on in the on position. The courtesy light on the door goes on when the door opens, so the switch on the door post works. My daughters 97 Camry has the same problem. Does anyone know of a quick fix? Or do I start looking for a broken wire or bad connection. I understand one can blow the computer if not careful fooling around with the wiring. Any help would be appreciated

Make sure the bulb isn't just burned out.

Also, there are usually some fuses missing. Not all cars use all the fuse spots up. Check your owners manual - it'll show which ones are blank and which ones should have fuses, and what amperage.

Check on the owner manual and find whats the right fuse cause it doesn't tell me which one is it for the ceiling light ( or Interior light)

Some of these are 3 position switches. On, Off, and delayed off (light stays on for extra seconds after you exit vehicle). Is yours like that?
