Transmission Issue?

I have a 99 Avalon XLS with a 182K miles and am experiencing the following. Engine jerks from the front to the back when shifting from park into reverse. It also is jerking whenever the shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear and downshifting from 3rd back into 2nd I have taken to two differnent shops and neither have corrected the problem. The first replaced the dog bone(no help). The second replaced the front motor mount(no help). The car has run perfectly since I purchased with 71K. I sure don't want to give it up. Any ideas.

Only reason for the jerking based on your description would be the dog bone or the mounts. Did you replace the big one in the front?

If that's not working maybe the spot where the mounts themselves attach has had the sheet metal torn or damaged somehow, but I've never heard of that happening.

My Gen 3 Camry moved so much before I replaced the mount that it actually tore the rubber intake hose/bellows and would sometimes open it up when it moved, causing the mixture to suddenly lean and nearly die.

Yes, It was the big one in front right under the oil filter. I checked all the mounting points and they are sound and secure.

Problem found maybe

I finally broke down and took the car to the dealer today and they informed me that when the starter was replaced(by another shop) that the throttle cable was pulled loose from the tranny. The tech pushed it back down and the car does shift better now but still needs to be fixed(400.00). Am taking back to the starter replacer and see if they will pay.
