Dash Brake Light Out Indicator '99 XLS

The dashboard brake light out indicator is on, but all brake lights check OK. What should be checked in the circuit? Clean light sockets, connectors and ground?

This happened on my Mom's 95. There was some corrosion on one of the sockets that I guess dropped the power draw enough to trip the warning light. My first thought would be to clean the contacts.

there is a switch that tells when there is a light out and is located in left side of trunk behind the padding. it goes out frequently and cost $150+ to replace. i just put tape over the light. if anyone knows how to disconnect, pls tell

Any brake light can trigger that to go off even the third brake light above the package shelf by the rear window. Look carefully, every time that bulb lights up on my car a bulb has been out.

There are also 2 bulbs in the lower brake light parts. Check these bulbs as well. If both are out in the same spot, it won't look as if you have any lights out because they would be equal. Also, you might want to check the reverse lights.
