High water = not much fun

okay as a houstonian
i have to deal w/ very high water most of the year
being the proud owner of an avalon
ive come to realize
hell im low to the ground im going to get water sucked in

in fact
my dad who drove this car before me has already had one run in w/ a big puddle

ive already modified the intake so that the water can be almost mirror level befor it i=enters the intake

what i wanted to know
is there some gauge i can install that will warn me about water depth
and is there some way i can essentially make my doors and most of my lower engine water proof or water tight

i deal w/ high water and i love my car

thanks

The only way I would ever drive any vehicle in water that is over the sills is if it were in a dire emergency. It's not an Amphicar - stay out of water!

I drove my Avy through water that was up to my bumper, but by no means would I choose to do it multiple times if I could avoid it.

If you are going to drive through high water suggest you look in detail at car and all its components.

More then one Camry owner (almost the same car) has engine operation and starting problem because of washing the engine. The water gets into the wiring connectors. Water tends to cause ongoing electrical issues due to corrosion.

Make sure if the water gets into the car it drains out of areas such as doors, body side panels, trunk center and side wells, chassis channels, etc.

Also make sure the brake rotors are not hot as the water will warp them.

Update

okay just to give you guys a little more info

Financially i can not afford a different car right now
im stuck with my avy

as for dont drive through water

well in my area though it is getting better
after even just a light rain will i be up to just about my headlights in water
houston streets are terrible so in that respect hope you get it...

i just wanted to know if there was a way to seal the doors
and if there were any important electronics on the lower side of the engine

and as i said
i have moddified the air intake
this is a stock intake w/ the intake tube removed from the bottom half of the airbox and holes drilled through out the bottom half of the air box incase the water does happen to rise that high

thanks toyomoho for your input

the first time this car got dunked it soaked the air filter
and wouldnt turn over
but that was a long time ago

peace
