Gen1 1996 Avalon XLS

The lever to open the gas filler door does not work and cannot open the door. Anyone have any suggestion as to how to open the gas tank door?

i'm in the same position u are. My gas door doesn't open unless I have someone to pull it out while I pull the lever. I have a way you can open it by yourself, there's a lever in the back of ur trunk that you have to get too by the gas tank. Once you access it try to tug on it and open it.

I haven't been able pop out my gas door eversince last year. I didn't really know how to fix it. The only way I could open the doors is if i use something to hold up the lever and opening the door by hand. I need a solution as well -_-

If the door releases but doesn't pop out, you probably just need a new spring. It's a little folded piece of metal that pops the thing out. Go to the parts dept, ask for a fuel door spring, they should have one in stock. Once you have the new one in your hands you'll see how it clips in. Real easy.

That happened to me but the little plastic tab that holds the spring in snapped off so the working spring couldn't clip in. I just JB Welded a heavy pen spring on there.
