Clunking noise returned....

I have a 98 XLS. I had all of the struts, bushings and sway bars replaced no more than 5 months ago. And everything was great until a few days ago. Now I have a horrible clunking noise coming from the front, how can I fix this?

Clunking when going over bumps, clicking when turning corners?

You had the sway bars replaced?

If this noisy pull the tires and check for loose or broken suspension parts.

Yes, clunks over every little damn bump and when turning, braking, accelerating, basically whenever the front wheels move.

I'm not a mechanic or anything but everything appeared to be normal, and what do you mean pull the tires?

I also recently had the steering rack and pinion replaced, I guess it could be that also. Any ideas?

Take the car to the dealership. Have them remove the tires and inspect the suspension parts - swaybar/links, ball joints, FWB's, etc etc

What brand struts did you use? Did the dealer install them? Or a shadetree?

Monroe Sensa-trac, and not at the dealer. It is a pretty reliable automotive store though, I have been going there for several years.

Sorry to say the reports on the Monroe all in one kits are not good. I hope you saved the originals - so you can just replace the insulators and struts. I used KYB struts and OEM insulators. No probs.

When I recently replaced my steering rack I had one bad sway bar bushing that I had to reinstall because none were available at the time. Exact same symptoms you describe. I put my money on that being the problem. Don't buy aftermarket, you will probably get the wrong one. Dealer has them and quite reasonable. Pretty easy to replace also.
