95 avalon brake problem

ok my brakes keeps getting warp, i changed them about 3 times for the same problem, it does it to the both the front and the rear, i also change the the rear calipers with brand new ones with new pads and rotors, and new front pads and rotors, when i drive and when i hit the brakes, it feels like theres a big earth quake, i dont know why it does that, and i put decent brakes into it not the cheap kind either, i have a 95 fully loaded avy, it also has about 204k but still runs strong, i also clean the mating surface of the rotor and the hub with sand paper to take off the brake dust and rust.

id check your suspension. what you are describing could be tie rods or possibly loose bushings, but you have essentially eliminated the braking system as the problem. now move on to what effects the car next. I would recommended checking the front suspension first.

That's what my Camry was doing for a long time. I'd re-turn the rotors, and the shaking would decrease a bit, but it would get worse again in 6 months or so. As the miles rolled on, even turning the rotors did not help. I put up with it for years until I finally took a guess and replaced my wheel bearings, which totally fixed it. I ended up replacing the bearings at all four corners. Here's a link to a DIY thread I posted for the fronts. In that thread I have a link to a DIY thread I posted for the rears.

thats what i was thinking or the spindle of the hub was bent some where, so you spent 400 for all around for the repair? i can take off but the bearings i cant do.

Yeah, $400 just for parts and the labor to do the press-fitting of the front bearings. I would guess if you had a shop do the fronts, it should be about $300 per bearing, including the part cost. That's allowing a couple hours for labor.

ok its been a while, well i looked at the car today since my nissan broke down, well i was looking at the rear rotors, well the disk part looks good but the part that didnt look soo good was the part where the shoes are at, once side is clean and the other side is that rusty looking, so im gonna bring it to a mech cause i hate fixing shoes, and on that i dont have the tool to do it anyways, im planning on maby getting new rotors again, shoes, and a hardware kit, new springs and pins and clips, and i know its the ebrakes cause i took the wheel out tighten down the rotors and spined it and it still accurse with out the caliper.

I had the same issue with warping my front rotors on my 97' avalon. After warping 2 sets of rotors within a couple of months I figured out that the cause of this was from too much heat from constant or hard braking.

Solution: I took off the backing plate/ heat shield off the front brakes which allowed more air to cool down the rotors quicker and changed the rear rotors with some slotted ones which should help put more braking power in the rear. I've been driving on the same rotors for a little more than a year now and my rotors still have not warped.

BTW: adding rear slotted rotors helped my avalon stop much more stable at high speeds. Eliminating some front nose dive when braking. (more even braking all around)

Hope this info helped.

Heavy_d,

Does the shaking happen only when you apply the brakes? Is it worse at high speeds?

I got my rotors from 88rotors. They are located in South El Monte, Ca. They can slot or cross-drill or both to any rotors. They do their own machining. Their prices are really good compared to many places I been to.

yes this only happens when i hit the breaks, its the rotors, they are warped, then i took the calipers off, with the brackets and pads, i checked the e-brake and they are clean on one side and the other side is rusted, now when i put the rotors back on, i left the calipers off with the pads and bracket and tighten the rotor with the lug nut and when i try to spin it like if i was driving, it stops spinning, and ill be spinning it by hand, if i go faster the car will shake really crazy, im guessing its over heating and warping, but then again, when i put the rotors on for the first time when i remember i still hear that rubbing noise and i had a feeling it was going to come back again and it did.
