Transmission question

I wona know whats the difrent betwen column and floor shift transmissin?
I have column shifter in my car is it posible to instal flor one to my car thats the only transmissin I can get now in scrab yard.

I would think you would have to change many different parts for this to work, the trim and all would be different and i dont think the linkage would line up right

The difference is where the shifter is ... the transmission is likely the exact same unit ... at least that was the case when I did column to floor conversions 30 to 40 years ago. Question is, what will you do with the left over parts on the column?

Not only that but you would have to do some major interior mods - the column shifter was used with the bench front seats only and the floor shifter was used with front bucket seats.

Not an easy swap and likely not worth the aggravation or the marginal looking results when you are finished, also likely to kill any potential re-sale value.

if you dont have the factory service manual i would recommend getting one before going any farther, or take it to a good shop and pay to have it done correctly
