custom Speaker fittings

I'm about to buy a '99 Avalon; I searched the speaker threads. Is it possible to remove the enclosure and mount a custom baffle for a larger speaker (6.5 to 8")?

I could easily put a custom grill on the door panel extending down into the pocket.

what enclosure are you talking about? the stock sub is an 8" speaker and the door speakers are 4" all around. it would be very very hard to fit an 8" speaker in any of the doors. you could remove the baffle that the stock 4" speakers come in, (i have pics in a thread i started back in october or december) but you would still have to custom cut the door panels and there is no second chances there. i would rather custom mount 6x9s in the rear deck. you would get your sound and still maintain the clean interior.

Thanks for the reply. I was wondering if anyone had removed that baffle\enclosure the stock 4"ers come in. If so is there a gaping hole behind it or is it solid metal?

I'm not too scared to cut panel, I've done it before in a 95 camry and a ford ranger. But if I did cut how would it fit?

any thoughts?

Does anyone know the enclosure volume on the front door speakers?

i dont know the volume of it, but once you take out the baffle, all you have to worry about is the sheet metal next to the window. its just 4 screws and shes out, piece of cake.

ive mounted jl audio c5 splits into my avalon, the just fit with 7mm upfront and 10mm gap behind. i have the australian version though. not sure how it differs from the US version, but maybe some aussies might find this useful. our speaker mounts are different. our speakers are 5 1/4 inch stock. but in my car there is about 8 inch wide hole. i took off the factory mounts n just made a 9mm baffle with 9mm spacers on top.
