HELP - Big 3 wiring upgrade Question

I did the big 3
alternator positive to battery positive
battery negative to chassis
engine to chassis

the power turns on in the car but the engine wont start
very frustrating to say the least

I DID NOT replace factory wires, i dont know if i should have.
there is a white wire running from the alternator positive output stud to
the interior of the car. and the positive from the battery runs directly to something right next to the battery.

so IDN wat i did wrong, hopefully my battery is just dead, its hella old.

here is a pic of my engine

1.) Alternator positive output stud to battery positive

2.) Engine to Chassis

3.) Alternator positive to battery positive
Battery Negative to Chassis

has anybody done this successfully? ANY HELP IS MUCH APPRECIATED

nice, glad it was just the battery, electrical problems can be such a nuisance
