Sway Bar End Links

You didn't say if they were original and they can become noisy. They don't have to cost a fortune. Look at this item # (120286737260) on ebay. And good luck....

Interesting.

I suspect this may be the case for my 97 XLS. I replaced all the struts with KYB GR-2's about 2 years ago. I have had a clunk in the rear when ever I hit a bump ever since then. Everything is tight for the struts.

I keep forgetting about it as I am normally driving my Supra.

Just to update. I replaced my rear sway bar bushings with polyurethane bushings. This cured my clunking noise in the rear. I have been impressed with the results that I ordered up the front control arms and rear control arm bushings for my Avalon.

Where did you get your bushings from? I've had a hard time find a kit for the avalon.

I changed the rear stabilizer bar links to fix a noisy rear suspension in '97 Avalon. Used Moog parts. No more noise. FWIW.

I found them to have the best pricing anywhere.

You can also get them in red or black.

Gen1 Sway bar bushings did the trick

Like Oyovillage, I replaced my sway bar bushings with a pair made by Moog. Cost a whopping $11, did it myself, pretty easy job. Clunking sound is gone!!! I have a '98 Avalon XL with 167K miles - just bought it 3 weeks ago.

Ditto.

I think I need to change my front ones too; they're making a similar "thunking" noise over bumps. However, they seem to be a little harder to find at auto supply stores; only the local Toyota dealer had some in stock. Surprisingly, they were cheaper (~$10 each) than the prices quoted at retail stores. When you get them in your hands they LOOK like they're worth $2-3 each. Really soft rubber compound, too; no wonder they wear out and get sloppy.

I replaced the front ones with Energy Suspension bushings, clunking is still there. Found a tsb regarding this noise, but I don't have the money to replace both tie rods. $110 each. I MIGHT replace the links but they seem fine, as for now I just turn up the radio.
