97 Avalon XL Suspension?

Anyone know where i can buy 4 new suspension for my 97 Avalon XL? im looking for OEM or close to OEM, this is still a family car, and my dad is picky about the ride quality. He claim every time he go over bump he keep hearing a thump so he believe it the suspension that cause it. Anyone else have any other idea what can cost the problem before i go and get 4 new suspension. Then end up not fixing the problem. So give me some ideas before i lift up the car and don't know what to look for. thanks in advance.

I you aren't doing the work then i would find a good shop and have them check it out. If they change the struts, have the mounts done also.

I had this noise problem on my '97 Avalon at 33K miles. Turned out to be the upper mounts on the front struts. Usually only heard it when going over bumpy roads.

Yes, the upper front and rear strut mounts can make noise when going over bumps. Also the front/rear sway bar bushings and end links.

If sway bar bushings or end links this is an easy fix, if strut mounts the struts need to be removed and taken apart which is a strait forward job but more time consuming.

Try to narrow down the noise area. Having someone drive over potholes and speed bumps while you listen. The rear upper strut mounts are located beneath the rear deck where in front of the rear window.

If having a shop replace all the struts and mounts guessing $500-800.

Do it yourself cost is about $50 each for mounts, $15 per pair of bushings and guessing $25 each for links.

97 Avalon XL Suspension?

Toyomoho this is good info. I suspect the rear suspension on my '97 Avalon needs some attention. This is the second set of tires which seem to feather or cup out and create a lot of road noise which is irritating as the tires still have many miles of useful tread. I have noticed a little more bounce especially with rear seat passengers than I think is normal. If I tackle this, should I replace the struts and mounts?

Suspension

I found Munroe has a strut/shock package kit to replace OEM. Mine work great. I had a spring failure which necessitated immediate action. Look into these, they are cheaper than Toyota.

Original struts itself is not a long lasting one. I think KYB is one of their OEM.

Besides the strut & mount issue, there are clips that hold the plastic stone guard, cover, or whatever you call it being loose cause the thumping noise over a bump. Next time you do any work ask the mech to just push the plastics up to see whether they were loose. Could be a dealer item.. I don't know the cost, but I have purchased various parts from Mechanics ville toyota, VA & their prices are excellent compared to other dealers.
