Dreaded 401 ?

My CEL came on the other day and it is the 401 code, i cleared the code and it has come back 5 days later and about 600 miles. As i start to troubleshoot from reading all the past threads, will this hurt the engine? I just had emission testing done last month and everything was fine, so i have 11 months till i have to test again.

I got 29 mpgs on my last tank so it doesnt seem to effect the mileage.

Would fix the problem but doubt it will cause damage.

Might be a clogged EGR valve stuck closed or a plugged exhaust gas pipe running to it.

Defective VSV, vacuum control valve, temp sensor or vacuum hose.

Suggest cleaning the valve and tube first.

The Camry with V6 engine 1MZ-FE is the same along with a few other models. there should be some TM posts on how to do this.

thanks, i have quite a list to start checking this weekend, as long as nothing else comes up.
