Unhappy Changed Radiator today and have concerns

1997 XLS .Today I did a few things..changed an oxygen sensor , adjusted the parking brakes and changed the radiator. Well here is my concern and it is about the radiator size. First of all everything went fine as far as the R and R. It was not till after the fact ( I know...I should have compared both before installing the new one) That I noticed that the old and original radiator core/fins? whatever you call the actual aluminum part is about one inch thick whereas the new one is . I would say about a tad over half inch?. This vehicle is air conditioned and I am wondering if I was supplied with the wrong raditor? Good thing is that I obtained this new rad through a family friend who works at an independent shop. So tomorrow I will go there and have them research this a bit further with their local supplier. Fortunantely it is not a hard job to redo if need be.

Look at the radiator core. The old one may have 2 rows of vertical tubes while the new radiator only 1.

A/M radiators are sometimes a lot different to look at but I've never had a problem with one. Is it possible that you are just looking at the top plate that surrounds the core? Some A/M rads don't have that top plate. It has no effect on cooling.

I just took a peek and measured the old original core..it appears to be a single core but it is one inch . I even took a screw driver and cleared away the "fins" to confirm this. The A/M no. 1746 is also a single core but as mentioned before it appears to be just half of an inch maybe slightly more.... With that said the car seems to be doing ok just driving around the neighborhood...highway..I will see!!

May just be a design efficiency improvement. I guess a week's worth of driving in summer heat will tell all!

Good luck.

EDIT: Oh, and post up the results when you have some...
