Headlamp Compatibility

Hello all, I was curious if that the 95-97 Avalons and the 98-99 avalons share the same mounting configuration for the headlamp modules. They look the same size, But I'm uncertain if the holes and stuff will line up.

I was looking to replace the weathered lamps with something more interesting, and in this case the whole clear lens deal, plus if I ever retrofit the lamps it wont look as funny, I hope. :P

(ps, I already tried the forum search and was surprised of no matches!)
(pps, I searched again so I don't look like an idiot when I found something but no conclusion was ever given :P!)

USA headlight swap

I'm very curious myself about this swap, The '98 and newer cost less and probably has a brighter beam of light! I think I'm going to take the plunge and order one and see how it works. They look identical from what I have saw online but better

i dont know about mounting locations, but i really feel like there is a small difference in them, but a difference none the less. the facelift changed among other things the front fascia.

Hi,

Did you ever find out about the conversion? I found a few people who said that the 98-99 HID lens will mount in the 97, but couldn't find if anything else was needed, like a ballast, or a different model bulb.
Has anyone already done the replacement?

Thanks! :-)

97-99 models did not have HID.

95-97 They used the lens to diffuse the light patern
97-99 Used the reflector to diffuse the light.

HID lens is something way different.

I'm fairly sure the parts should be interchangeable though, it would be pretty silly for toyota to change the mounting locations on the body panels.

The sheet metal is the same, so they do bolt in;... but as i found in installing 98-99 corner lights in my 95...the electrical plugs and wiring are different. ....So it is possible that the wiring & light plugs are not the same.....just look on eBay and see if the bulbs are for all years 1995-99.
Sorry I cant be more help, but I just rebuilt the front of a wrecked 95 and there were no later model headlights from local salvage yards for me to try.

RE:Is that your car? or is it just coincidence!

Unfortunately it is coincidence...This one came up for sale right after we bought the one on the avatar . But as you can see, physically they do fit. I would bet they mount the exact same way. The changes from the 97 to 98-99 were small up front. It looks to me the most drastic changes were in the rear. I want to do the change but, I just polished the yellow out of the headlights with a kit I bought from Autozone. They came out looking great! I have heard they yellow pretty quick once you do this, if so I will do the change.

To replace the headlight, do you have to remove the bumper? Im assuming yes but would like to be sure. How many screws hold the bumper up?

No, you do not have to remove the bumper; but you do have to remove the corner lights to access a bolt and the grille also for the same reason. It is pretty straight forward once you start unscrewing stuff.

So I just remove the grill and corner lights to access the bolts for the headlight assembly? Seems pretty simple...are the screws for the grill and corner lights in plain view and obvious?
