Gen1 Short Ram Intake Problem!!! Help Please!!!

Ok, so here's the problem. I have a 1997 toyota avalon XL and it's my baby. I have had the short ram intake on for about a year now. It is for a 99-02 toyota solara and i bought it off ebay for about 35 bucks. My cousin installed it and we had 2 fat hoses connected and the MAF sensor connected to the intake. We had one skinny hose that we left not connected at all, since we had no where to put it. We started it up and it worked just fine (the check engine light came on and off during the year i had it and a mechanic said it would do that because it didn't recognize the new intake). Until today. While i was driving on the highway i was getting these small surges that came from the engine. Even when i was one the brake at a complete stop, the engine sounded like it would give off tiny revs up and down between 1 rpm. I took it to autozone to get it checked out and they gave me some tiny piece that connected to the skinny hose that has just been hanging in the engine. They popped a whole into the blue rubber piece that holds my intake piping into place and we conneceted that into the intake. Luckily, this stopped the surges for now they said. We scanned the car and it gave us 3 or 4 different codes. One was pertaining to the egr valve, another about the transmission circuit or something?, and another one about the IAT (Intake Air Temperature). They said the surges came from the IAT sensor so something must be up with that. I don't want to take of the SRI and put the stock one back on, so please help!!! Thanks for the assistance and time guys!!! Oh ya and i attached two pictures and circled the skinny hose, that use to be just hanging in my engine, autozone connected at the top of the intake piping.
