Power Steering Fluid Evaporate?

Please give some ideas about this:

My 97 model, last week I found its power steering fluid level beeing very low, I filled it up to max level mark. Exactly one week later, today, the level is low again, not very low. I have to add 2 oz to bring it up. I don't see any leaking on the ground (?). Is that too bad that need to be doing something? Please give some advices.

Thank you

Dan

Fluid can leak without dripping on the ground. When you have your next oil change take a look from underneath. Depending on the mileage of the car, the steering rack can have internal leak without dripping. Another possible cause of fluid lost is the idle up valve, which would allow the fluid to be drawn inside the engine and burnt off.

Thank you N.E.O, anyone please tell me, one day on my long trip, I stopped by a gas station and the serviceman added a little "power steering fluid". Does it cause any harm? because Avalon requires steering fluid is transmission fluid, Drexon III, II.

Unless you know what kind of power steering fluid that was added, it is difficult to tell. Most of the P/S should be compatible with what Toyota is using; however, without knowing what was put in, it will be anyone's guess.

Relax, don't worry, because it sounds like you will be topping it off soon enough with even more fluid. If its wrong it will just mix in and leak out, and just be replaced soon enough.

That is basically how mine has been for the last 35K. I just top it off with the STP with the anti leak ingredient.

Gently squeeze on the bellows (of the rack gear) - you'll have oil leaking out all over the place if my guess is correct...........
