Reflashing the ECU...

I wanted to know if it was possible to remap/reflash the ecu on my avy to get some decent gains...i know a remap would def add way more power but i started to question whether or not it could be done on my 96 and whether or not it would work....
any advice or eplinations on how this works?

thanks

I am not aware of the ECM on the 96 is reprogrammable or reflashable, at least not in the field.

Any luck with this feat? I am trying to see if this is possible as well. If not, I guess I'll just save up for a stand-alone from AEM or something.

Quite difficult to get relfashes for Toyota ECM. You can opt for piggyback systems like e-manage or standalone which is the best choice but at the higher cost.

okay this is customavy96
i DID get the ecu reflashed
and i tried a standalone
eitherway
the computer was so efficiently tuned to begin with i saw little to no gains either way
the only thing i saw was the removal of the top speed limiter

Getting it reflashed by the dealer? If so those reflashes are not performance based....

Where did you get it reflashed?

There's a top speed limiter on this car? Do you know by any chance what it is set at?

okay to answer all the question...
It was a custom TRD remap and they let me decide on all the parameters
as for top speed limiter, mine was set around 120mph
ive now topped out around 150-170mph with a slightly modded engine....
150 - 170! you say
well yeah
i drive hard and fast

Topped out at 150-170??? How can you give such a large range??

And I find it hard to believe that there's a speed limiter. I've taken my car to 139 MPH measured with a GPS, and I have done nothing to my ECU/ECM.
