'98 Avalon weird AC issue

'98 avalon has been having some interesting AC issues as of late. Cold air only comes out when AC is in the windshield setting, at all the other settings the air is warm. The interesting thing is that when you actually press and hold the other buttons, cold air starts to comes out. Any ideas?

loose cable. if you pop the hood there is a 'tube' running through the firewall and into the engine block. its right about in the center of the firewall. it has a silver piece of metal on it with a cable attached to it. it is a valve that controls the flow of hot/warm coolant into the a/c for the heat. there is a chance that it is loose and letting coolant heat up your air.



you can see it in that pic. its kind of above the brake booster reservoir.
