98 avalon ecm question???

hey i recently brought a 98 avalon and for some reason the chip (immobilizer) on the key isnt working with the ecm. i'm in a quest to search for a replacement ecm that doesnt use immobilizer. is there any ecm that was made w/o immobilizer? if so, what's the ecm code/stamp? my ecm stamp is 89661-07211. any help is appreciated!

also, can i use ecms from 96-99 or is it just 98 for my 98 avalon?

are you saying your key has a chip in it? I have an early 98 and my key is just a key, and so are the other keys that came with it from toyota. i hope that helps in opening up your search.

iono when i brought the car, the motor cranks over and everything but it won't start. their no fuel coming in, not sure about spark, but i know for sure there's no fuel. i had the car checked by a toyota dealer and they say that it's the ecm that not reading the chip inside the key (immobilizer.) so i'll have to get a new ecm and i dont want to pay 1000 for it. i'll rather just buy a ecm that's doesnt have immobilizer on it.

if anyone has or know someone selling a ecm that doesnt have the immobilizer i'll pick it up.

If your problem is cause by the immobilizer the security light will stay on when you turn your key on, if it is off, then your problem is something else.

so the security light is for the immobilizer? if so, then that is probably my problem. i was wondering what the security light was for. it still blinks when i try to start the car. do you know any ecm that will work with my 98 avalon that doesnt have an immobilizer? or how to bypass the immobilizer? (sorry in a honda guy, not toyota. so as far as honda goes you can swap ecu/ecm around as long as you stay with the same obd versions)

From what I was told there is only one ECM for both immobilizer and non-immobilizer vehicle, it is during the initial registration process that will determine whether the ECM will end up being one with or without immobilizer.

If the immobilizer is activated you need to have the ECU-immobilizer reset to a key.

If you do not have the master key you will need to get a new ECU-immobilizer-key setup from Toyota at $1000 or take the options listed in my last post.

Not really, you will have to consider what kind of option the vehicle was came with, VSC, ABS, etc, they all have a different ECM. Might want to try one of the option that toyomoho had suggested. Or seach for one with the same part# but without immobelizer.

I haven't seen any Avalons with immobilizers...Have you guys confirmed that there were some that did have it? I know somebody who had a similar problem, not an Avalon, but it turned out to just be his battery/wires.

yes its already confirm that the car has an immobilizer with a toyota dealer in town. it's not because of the battery or wires.

before i got the car, the previous owner took the car to a toyota dealer in town and the tech told him it was because the ECM wasnt reading the immobilizer chip. so the tech reprogram the chip onto the key for the ecm. but somehow it still won't start. the tech then told him to get another ecu and they'll retry it because he now think it's the ecm.

at this point i brought the car from the previous owner. and i didnt feel like wasting another 1000+ on another ecu and reprogramming and find out that's not the program.

yesterday, i was messing with the car and i found out there is fuel but no sparks. (previous owner said the tech told him there was no fuel or sparks)

and today i found out that there is a factory alarm on the car but i don't know where is it located so i can deactivited/unistall it. so now i need to know if anyone knows where the factory alarm is at because i don't feel like ripping the whole car apart to find it. i'm pretty sure it should be in the same place as most avalons.

and as for a respond to "toyomoho" yes that will be my next decision once i uninstalled the alarm and if "IF" it doesn't work. (HOPEFULLY IT DOES, CROSSING MY FINGERS)

I'LL KEEP YOU GUYS POSTED.

How did you check for fuel? You may have fuel pressure, but not injector pulse. If I remember correctly, when the wrong transponder code is detected, the ECM will disable the ignition and injector signal, can't be 100% sure though.

If there is an add-on alarm system, check under the passenger seat.

i took off the bolt/nut at the end of the fuel rail and turn the key to "ON" and gas starting spilling out. and when i took out the spark plugs out for a spark test there was a pop that came out from the cylinder.

i'll check for a alarm tomorrow morning. hopefully that's what keeping the car from starting.

EDIT:

have you/anyone ever had a alarm that would crank the motor but not let it spark? because usually shouldn't it just kill the starter right away and won't let the starter crank over?
