Replacing Fuel injectors

Got a 99 Avalon. Check engine light came on the other day and I took it to the dealer, Said it was going to cost $419.00 to replace fuel injectors. They also wanted to sell me new plugs and wires and a serpentine belt for a tune of $800. As they just replaced the enjine 40k miles before I think they were trying to rip me off. I had them pack it back up and I drove it home. I've tried almost double strength fuel injector cleaner thru it for the last 100 miles. Any chance this will clear itself by dumping solvents/cleaners in the tank? Don't notice an difference. Still skips.
Are replacing injectors difficult? for a hobbyist? Or should I just take it to another garage. Maybe not a dealer.
Any advice.

PS I tried a half tank with Sea Foam and another quarter tank with Techron
What about something in the rail? Heard they were more expensive than the replacement job.

I would take it to an autozone or similar place that will do a free OBDII scan.

If its done at a parts store, go in and find out what an injector will cost. Then take it to a local shop or two and get some quotes.

A fuel injector in my 96 went kaput, 110 for a new injector after tax, and 80 for instalation at a shop If I recall correctly.

I also got new plugs from the dealer for $65, which should be a fairly simple diy.

You could always buy a Haynes manual and it should have instructions on the replacement of the injectors. That should give you a good idea of the amount of work involved. The injectors themselves can get pretty pricey. If you do the work or not, you should have that repair manual. Comes in handy all the time. The spark plugs are not too bad, except for the rear bank that requires you to remove the intake manifold.

I just replaced the plugs on my '99 a couple of weeks ago. No need to remove the manifold. An assortment of 1, 3, and 6" extensions makes it a lot easier, to mix & match for the right length to clear obstructions on each location.

I think you mean throttle body, not intake manifold? Removing the throttle body does give you alot of extra room for the Bank1 plugs, but it is not necessary at all. I am a big proponent of taking extra time upfront to disassemble for good access; but, in this case, removing the throttle body is not worth the effort, at least not for me.
