Michelin tires balance up better towards the end of their life than any other tire. And their rolling resistance is the lowest of any tire brand IMO.
My 1996 had Toyo tires on it [when I bought it at 40K miles] - they were awful. Yet they lasted quite a while. Never could get them to balance up perfect.
I think the car had Bridgestones on it from new (based on what the spare is - sheesh I probably need to replace it!). But again, the car only had 40K on it when I bought it - so the OE Bridgestones weren't very long lived...
I dunno, some of the guys at work swear by Firestone and Goodyear. Maybe they just aren't as picky as I am ???

I've always had great experiences with Goodyear, and my Avalon presently has Goodyear Assurance tires that are well on track to give me 50,000+ miles with 70% city and 30% highway driving. I agree that no one comes close to Michelin for roll resistance and excellent wear, but they are expensive tires too. Bridgestones...average at best...IMO....

P.S. -- One very important thing to note is the Goodyear Assurance tires perform marginally at best in wet weather. I knew that when I bought mine, but since I live in California it was no big deal. If I lived in an area with more rain I would have bought different tires.
