1996 rear sway bar bushies clunking again!

Dangit! The OEM bushing(s) replacements have shrunk just enough to start that dreaded clunking sound from the rear. Again! [Both were replaced two years ago].
From underneath, I could see they were both short now about 1/8th of an inch. And when jacked up on one side, I could actually move the swaybar up and down by that much - at the bushing. sheesh! I loosened the metal retaining cap over the bushing and stuffed a folded over piece of bicycle innertube 'tween the frame and the top of the bushing on both sides.
Re-tightened the metal retaining cap and test drove it. Perfect /again.

hi,
I was wondering if you could tell me how the car drove when the bushings were messed up? Could you feel the road, etc?

Only time I really noticed it was when backing out of my driveway - the small drop off my driveway onto the street (about 1 inch or so) really made the rear end clunk sound off! Otherwise, when driving normally down the road, I really didn't notice it.
