Ever since i bought the car, my stock CD changer does not work. Any ideas as to why? I tried to clean it with no luck. It will not read any cds.

Does this system use a remote changer or the cartridge type.

Typically if these systems fail it is cheaper to replace it.

I had problems with my 3 disc changer jamming and was able to fix it myself. I got lucky. I found these guys http://www.shortcircuitrepair.com/ when I was poking around. They want $25.00 to test and give you an estimate. If you use them, let us know how it works out.

My OEM player doesn't play burned CDs for some reason.

It has to do with the format that the music is burned in. The older players only read one format. I'm not sure what the file extension is that the older one use?

I've had the same problem with the OEM 12 CD changer in my 95 Avalon. I bought the car and the changer wasn't working. I bought a replacement OEM 12 CD changer for 75 dollars from ebay and put that in and that worked for a year or so and that stopped working.

I couldn't figure it out and I brought it over to the Toyota dealership and found out that their services were subbed out to "ShortCircuit," the one listed in the above post.

"ShortCircuit" was very responsive and helpful in doing a diagnosis on my CD changer, Raymond (who I think is the owner) was really professional and took his time to explain the problem with my changer, and possible options. I even brought over spare changers I had laying around of the same OEM model to see if they could hack and replace it for parts in repairing my changer. However, they were not able to fix it. Long story short, I just replaced the whole stereo with an aftermarket unit and haven't had a problem since.
