Door ajar warning on driver side not working

I'm new to this form and I spent about three hours learning and planning my mods last night but this is the two things I need to tackle:

First and most important, my 98 Avalon XLS does not sense when the driver side door is open, causing no dome light, no warning buzzer if the lights or keys are in, and no door ajar light. The other doors work fine and I just went through every fuse I could find and they all are fine. What can I do to fix this?

Second and less important, when I replaced my stereo there was a mystery box that was small and black that had a bunch of wires coming to it and was really light weight and not attached to the AC controls at all. Does anyone know what it is?

Did you check the door switch?

Where did the wires go to from the box?

What/where is the door switch?

Whatever the box is its factory as the mount makes a place for it. its just a black box with a factory adapter to it that has plenty of wires.
