Power Antenna Removal

The mast portion on my power antenna on the out side of the car does not retract anymore. I have a feeling that the teeth are stripped. I know the motor itself is fine, b/c when i turn the power off from the car you can hear the motor working as if it was raising or lowering the antenna.

My question is, how do you get the antenna mast portion out from the top of the outside of the car, and from the motor itself?

Thanks

Truck??? Are you working on an Avalon or a Tacoma pickup? If it's an Avalon, there are a few threads in the Camry section showing how to replace the mast. The Avalon's antenna mast is identical. Here's a link one thread, read the second post by Toyomoho:

It gets more complicated if the plastic cord is broken off down inside the power unit. Then you have to partially disassemble the lower unit to get it out. I don't recall seeing a thread with instructions for that. Hopefully you won't need to do that.

It is for my car, my Avalon XLS.

So you do not need to take any rubber grommets off at all? Just hit the AM or FM button while turning the key to ACC??? and the mast will come all the way up? That is what i got

Yep, pretty much. You might have to cycle it twice. The second time holding the "cord" back while the motor's trying to pull it back in.
