Help please with Remote Keyless FOB

I recently bought a '99 Avy that came with no manual. No luck finding one anywhere yet...or answer to how remote is supposed to work (found lots of info on programming remote to work with car but not specifically how remote is supposed to work.)

The car has the factory alarm system and came with a couple black two button remotes. The upper, stipled, larger button locks and unlocks the vehicle. The lower button doesn't seem to do anything no matter how often or how long I press it. Would someone please let me know how it is supposed to work?

Thank you.

P.S. Yesterday I found out the car also didn't come with a lug wrench...just the jack (unless it is hidden in some obscure spot.) Always check that when you buy a used car!

Finally found this old thread that suggests second button doesn't do anything unless you have option. For example it can be used for trunk release. Says you need solenoid and to wire up relay. Anyone do this? Specifically, I'm wondering if there is some wiring already running back there or if I've got to run it all the way from trunk to relay.

Factory 97 alarm and chirping

Try pressing the 2nd button and see if it does anything.

If it doesn't do anything you need a trunk release selenoid and relay. Its just a matter of mounting the selenoid and wiring up the relay.
By the way, replaced batteries in both remotes and range went from 5-10 feet to 15-20 yards.
