Arrow Is My HU On My Radio Bad... Or Is It My 12 Disk CD Changer?????

I was wondering if you guys could help me problem solve.... I have an OEM 12 disk CD changer in my Toyota. It has never worked since i owned the car.. Help me problem solve...

When i go and add a cd to the changer, the changer ejects the cartridge jsut fine. I put the cd in and the cartidge loads again jsut fine.

Now i go into my car, on my radio i hit CD... It switches to CD and it says load for a second, then the disk number (for instance if i put the cd in the 12th slot on the display it will say 12) will blink and blink and blink and do nothing. If you hit FWD, RVW or anything nothing happens..

So which is broken? My HU (head unit) on the radio? Or is the changer itself broken?

Thanks for the help!!!

Have you pulled the harness connector off the changer? Try removing power from the changer and then plug it back in. Since your headunit seems to be communicating with changer, I would suspect the changer is having trouble reading the CD. If the reboot trick doesn't work, the laser lens may be dirty.

Yes today i pulled off both of the harness on the changer. I think i will try some compressed air, blow out the changer and see if it works.. But i don't think it will

So for sure it is prolly the changer? B/C like you said it is communicating with the radio?

Sice your HU knows what disc your trying to play, I do think your having disc read problems. Compressed air is hit or miss. The best way is to remove the changer and clean the lens directly with a Q-tip. If your not up for tearing it apart, you can try blowing air through it. Good luck.

Have you tried putting in 2 CDs and then trying to see if you can change CDs? If you can't do that, it would seem to be communication issues. If you can change between CDs from the head unit, then it will be a reading issue.
