auto climate control not working

I have a 98 Avalon with automatic climate control. The fan speed is not working. I can set the climate control to 65 and the fan light will show hi speed but the speed is still low speed.

I pulled the blower motor resistor out (drivers side by the gas pedal) but the size is smaller than the Toyota replacement from NAPA or Toyota.

The NAPA book shows a 97 blower motor resistor that looks close but they didn't have it in stock.

It looks like it is Part Number 87138-50010. Toyota wanted to sell me a blower controller instead but that was $170 (PN 87165-32010) and no return policy.

Does anyone have a picture or other guidance to get the fan working? I searched the forum without much luck. I've fixed Camry's with new blower motor resistors but this Avalon is different.

Thanks again for any help.
Rick

SOLUTION: auto climate control not working

Just a followup to my question.

The linear controller was bad. Pulled one from a 99 XLS. Now the climate control and all fan speeds work. $10 at a pick and pull.

If you want to get a new part, Toyota part number is 87165-32010.
