Well, ever since I realized the stock head unit was a Fujitsu Ten, I kind of don't crap on the stock stuff automatically, personally. My base-level stock speakers are paper cone nonames, but don't know about the avalon, especially if you've got the premium sound package.
the stock speakers are HAROM-KareM??(somethign like that) Same company as jbl, infinty and others I think..... if you look up it up on the internet, you'll find that they are all sister companies and stuff....
I too have a 96 ava XL. I put in the JBL from a 2000 avalon, sounds great! putting amp in later....too cold to do it now...if you have any other questions about the avalon let me know, I'm not the answer king of aval, but just like to give my opion on it.
99% of car speakers are crap. Go get some infinity reference series for a quick and cheap upgrade. If you really got some dough get Focal's, there the shit!

Bunthy, I have a 97 Avalon, how do you install the whole JBL system from a 2000 into our generation avalon? Aren't the wiring harnesses and speaker sizes different? I really wanted to upgrade my cars stereo but the choices in the aftermarket are very limited for the avalon.
