USA AC Problems

My 95 Toyota Avalon XLS has ice cold blowing air anytime I pull out of our garage, and will remain that way unless I park in an open parking lot. Then the summer outside temperature seems to affect the AC, and it blows hot.

If I park outside during the summer, the AC will not blow cold upon start up but if I decide to park in the garage overnight, the next morning the air blows cold upon start up.

This occurs when I park in covered garages as well (AC works) and when I park outside and leave the car parked for a time (AC does not work).

It's been charged and the problem persists.

Any thoughts or threads would be greatly appreciated.

The sun warms things up and makes it more difficult for the AC to cool. Park it ouside overnight and get up at dawn, start it up and you'll see.

What were the pressures (high side and low side) after you put the charge in? Are your fans running when the A/C is on? I would think your either low on charge or your condenser core isn't getting enough air flow. If you have a set of gauges, take pressure readings with the system running and post them here.

Get a thermometer and take some readings too. The A/C system temperature is also an indicator of performance.

I had a problem similar to this, i fixed it by unclogging the AC drain hose on the bottom of my car, it grew full of mold. when it is hot, the humidity builds in the box and makes the AC cut off. I fixed it by sticking a coat hanger up the hose to scrape out the crud, then I ran the fans full blast and sprayed GFS disinfectant (kinda similar to Lysol) in the duct below the windshield to kill the rest of the mold, this also got rid of the pee smell when i would first start up the air conditioner. worth a try!

Ok Since this is a A/C problem tread, I would like to say that im havin' problems with mine as well, first of all, my car stopped workin' all of a sudden, it didn't blow cold air nor hot air. So i took it to the mechanic, he said the compressor had a leak, ok did that, I brought it home the a/c was ice cold which is good now. But when i turned the a/c control to hot. it didn't work, instead it was blowin' cold lol. I don't know. The reason' i replied to this treat is because i dont' want to make another tread dealin' with a/c issueas since theres one already. So that been said, I was wonderin' if any, anybody here know what could be causing this problem? I mean i want to be prepared for the winter. in 3 months now or so. winter is comin'. Thanks alot.

DaBears2005, did you charge the ac yourself? An A/C system that blows cold air for awhile then warm air is probably freezing up. This can be caused by air and moisture in the system that allows ice to form and block the orifice tube.
Evacuating the system with a vacuum pump will purge it of unwanted air and moisture.

CSaxd on, I think you nailed it! I'm going to have it done at a local ship this week, I'm almost positive that's the problem. Thanks.
