1996 P0441 code

LOL a Google search does a better job of finding info on this code than does the TN search engine...

Anywho, with 200K miles on the car, I doubt the dealer's going to be of much use here as far as TSB / Eco warranties.
My first plan is to replace the gas cap with OEM. Then scrounge breakeryards for charcoal cannister assy. Unless anyone has a better idea?

I've never replaced that gas cap. So I am sure it's suspect. But so few here have this issue, I really wonder what's up??

It (CEL) came on just as I pulled away from a stop light. I had been driving the car about 30 miles [home from airport tonight] when it lit up.

My OBD-II code reader (AutoIngenuity) didn't really report anything else amiss in the log.... I performed a reset once I got home, but didn't drive it anywhere.

The code came back yesterday. (I confess, all I did was reset the code last time - some three weeks ago). So today, I bought a new gas cap. $25 at the dealer. We'll see.

There's a pattern of when the code sets. 30 minutes of Expressway driving, then long, downhill exit ramp and stop. CEL comes on about 20 seconds after moving off from stop.

New gas cap seems to have cured it. I get a nice whoosh sound when I remove it after driving for awhile - haven't heard that in a long time.
