Ticking noise..help!

Hello all,

I tried searching for topics on this and found one or two...but with very little help from either

I hear a very irritating ticking sort of noise from my front right wheel/wheel well area while driving (1997 avalon xl). It gets faster as the car goes faster, but seems to subside after reaching freeway speeds (or because its ticking so fast I cant hear it anymore...) and I have checked the entire wheel well for anything stuck/broken/loose and find nothing.

It seemed to have started after I got a service on the car (tire rotation/balance or new tires...can't remember which. it was about a year ago.)

It is now driving me completely insane and I'd like some input about what you guys might think this is!

thanks a ton

Something in the wheel bearing/wheel bearing starting to go out? Maybe the deflector behind the rotor is touching the rotor(slightly warped) as it passes making a sound.

Possible rock or nail in the tire, check any bug guards or plastic rain gutters you may have on the car.. You may have to remove the wheel and look for scrapes on the rim or tire, possibly do a tire rotation and see if the noise changes positions..Nothing found, go to the brakes...That being said, is it a constant and consistant tick at steady speeds, does it go away when turning right, or left, or applying the brakes??keep us updated....Dave

Had similar ticking sound from rear wheel of my 98 Avalon. Finally had the dealer look at it and it was the hubcap.

1999 XLS drove me crazy with the ticking noise 2 yrs ago. Mechanic pointed me to the stabilizer bar joint being worn out. Because the car was on the original struts and stabilizer bars, I changed them all. Still ticking. Found out that the Toyota Logo centre piece has a littlemovement on the wheel. Attached a tape to it, ticking went away.

If you get the ticking while turning, possibly due to failing strut mount bearing.
