Question Engline Light Always on.

Hi I have a 1996 Avalon that runs perfectly and has no problems that I know of..at all.

BUT, I have a rejection sticker because my check engine light is always on.

I have had 3 places run the codes and there aren't any.

I unplugged the battery for 1 hour then plugged it back in and turned the car on, after 2 seconds the light was back on.

I then bought a new computer because the inspection place I went to said that it might be a bad computer, installed, and the light is still on. Thankfully Ebay is cheap on that computer by the way.

I was going to just pull the light, but the test is conducted through the computer so regardless of the light being there it would still see that it was supposed to be on.

I was wondering if anyone knows why this might be happening.

Thank you in advance!

It might cost a little more but the dealer might be able to access the codes for you, but before that, call the local dealer and explain the issue to them maybe they can advise you over the phone...Be sure to let them know you have family lookin at a new Toyota to encourage them to be cooperative...Good luck keep us updated...Dave
