Question Outside Temperature Sending Unit Not Working

It seems that my temperature sending from the outside of the car is going bad. My dispaly on the inside of the car is either blank or - -....

Seems that with the cooler weather it works more often than not..

So my question is, where is the outside tempature sending unit that sends the signal to the display inside the car? I want to replace it with a new one.

Thanks!

-Jonas

I personally don't have that feature (98 XL), but I'll have a look in my electical wiring diagram and see if they have anything on it.

Mine is in front of the radiator towards the bottom. Before you buy a new unit, make sure the connector isn't corroded/loose and check the output with a VOM.

I'm not positive, but it looks like it's called an "ambient temp sensor". To buy one, you could go here:

https://www.toyotapartsexpress.com/parts.html

Enter in your model & year info, and then drill down as follows:

Hvac - Controls - Automatic temperature controls - Ambient temp sensor

It's about $60.
