Gen1 headlight problems

i have a 99 xls and about 11 months ago I installed a remote starter, when i was putting all wires together , i tried to hook up the parking light wire to the car parking lights and the headlights(WAS NOT SUPPOSED TO DO). I got the parking lights right but not the headlights, when i put the battery back on i saw some smoke coming from inside the car, it was the headlight wire that got burned and since then it never turns on in the headlight position, only on AUTO mode and parking mode also works. Any idea what the problem could be.

planning on replacing the remote starter with this AutoPage remote strater and alarm, so i want to try and fix this problem with while have the interior opened up.

its hard to say what could have gone wrong. since there was smoke i would asume there was a shortage or a heavy load. i guess either you melted the wire or burned the switch (i don't know why it didn't blew a fuse) . since it work on auto position that means it gets current up to the switch, so there is something wrong between the swith and the headlight relay. use a multimeter for the voltage. good luck.
