hi my name is chad and i need to find out about my moms car. like about a year ago my mom needed her oil changed on her car and we got some oil and changed it. it was 5w30 like it says on the cap, it was working fine and then one morning is started to blow some blue smoke and we didn't know why that was, my moms coworker said next time we change the oil put some ATF in the oil to do an engine flush and we did that for only 100 miles and after that it was working really good but still blowing some blue smoke not alot. My dad decided to get some of that smoke stop from an auto parts store and put that in there when we changed the oil next, all it did was smoke even more when we put that in there, I told my dad to get some of that engine restorer stuff http://www.restoreusa.com/ to see if that would get rid of the smoke. next time we changed the oil we did that and it wasn't blowing smoke anymore then a month went by and it was smoking a little bit and my dad put a little bit of the stop smoke in the oil cause it was low on oil. through out this time it starting leaking oil alot more than it ever has. the next morning my mom started the car and it just blew so much blue smoke out and i was thinking it is just some kinda gasket that is bad like a head, or something like that. so i told my parents again to change the oil but put high milleage in it will some of that engine restore and they did but it still blows smoke like no other. im not sure what the problem is, and i haven't checked for any leaks yet but the leaks were coming from the either drain plug or drain pain something like that not a really bad leak. it blows smoke more and alot thicker when it starts cold. other than that im not sure what the problem is, could anyone help me?
Sounds like you could have multiple problems. If it's just a leak, then spend some time crawling around to find it. If it's smoking that bad, then it could be as simple as the oil leaking on the exhaust pipe. If there's a lot of smoke coming out the back of the car, then you may have other issues, like bad rings. I haven't used any of the oil additives you mentioned, but if it's leaking from the drain plug or pan then you might not want to drive it too far before fixing it.

Umm, using ATF in the engine oil might have something to do with it. If you change your oil at the proper interval you shouldn't be too worried about flushing the engine. An engine flush isn't gonna cure the smoking problem. Nor is any "miracle" product out there. The blue smoke is burned oil due to bad rings and/or leaky valve stem seals. Lots of smoke on cold start usually means valve stem seals. I think that co-worker has been smoking something lately. ATF in the engine oil? I need a drink.

well this co worker has been a mechanic for like 15 years so idk. i have heard that you can put atf in the oil to help with the gaskets cause it will loosen the seals and everything to help seal it better. but im not sure i wouldn't use that kinda thing myself but not sure what others think. ok thanks guys that helps ill check on those leaks to to see if that is part of the problem to.
its leaking oil through valve stem seals to the combustion chamber. either you got bad valve stem seals or you have soo much sludge in your engine it blocks the oil passagesand oil from top leaks to the combustion chamber. my parents minivan which has the same engine (1MZFE), had the same problem when i poped the valve cover it was horrible inside. i removed front and back valve covers scooped all the sludge used kerosine and got all the nasty stuff out. problem solved never smoked again. not to forget remove the oil pan clean the pickup screen too.
ok thanks i will try that out and see if it is that dirty. if its not would it be the valve stems seals? thats kinda what everyone has told me but still just getting more info so we don't have a major problem later on down the road.

Not true.
Toyota extended Engine Sludge warranty 8 yrs/160,000 miles.
I have records to prove my cars oil change intervals through Toyota Service records. Although I don't have any problem, I have seen slight build up while changing valve cover gasket last spring. I know people who had to pay over $1K to get it repaired.(swaping could be cheaper!). This is like the MTBF (mean time between failures) of any products.. 1MZFE has the # way low.
oh ok that makes me understand a little more now. ok thanks i will take the valve cover off and see if there is sludge like that. If the valve cover isn't that bad then would it be the valve seals? or would it be worst?
I found out it was smoking a long time before using the ATF BTW. it was smoking about as badbefore we used ATF so its not the ATF

try using Seafoam motor treatment, you buy one can from Autozone or O'Reily and put 1/3 in your gas tank(make sure it is full), 1/3 in the engine oil and 1/3 in the brake booster line. read up on it to to figure out how to do it.
