Brake Fluid DOT 3/4

I am going to bleed the brakes on my '99 which calls for DOT 3 fluid. Has anyone experienced any problems using a DOT 3/4 such as Castrol LMA? I have read that while the DOT 3 and 4 fluid themselves may be compatible, some makes have had seal problems with DOT 3/4 fluids. I haven't come across this yet in my research for Toyota. DOT 3 fluid is not avaliable in the big box stores in my area.

dot 4 is design for the new and high performance cars and it exceeds specs of dot3. in other words DOT4 is the newer version of DOT3. You can use dot 4 in a system requires for dot 3 but you must not use dot 3 in a dot 4 system. i think u r going to have problems if you use DOT5 which is a silicone based brake fluid.

DOT 4 is compatible with DOT 3. I run DOT 4 fluid in my Corolla with no problems, where the owners manual specified DOT 3.

Avoid DOT 5 at all costs. It's not compatible.
