Question 4th set of tires on '99 with 85K

I hope someone can help me with this, I don't want to get ripped off again.

My '99 Avalon came with Bridgestone Potenza RE92's, not a good fit for Ohio winters, and had to be replaced at 30K miles.

Next I went with Michelin Energy MXV4's, which I researched and was told they would hold up for 50K. At 30K they were shot and I wondered if I did not rotate them often enough.

Then I tried Nokian WR All-Weather Plus2's. They have been on the car for 24K and need replacement before the snow flies.

The Michelin's and Nokian's were purchased at the same dealer. When I complained about the Nokian's not living up to my expectations, he stated that the car was designed "under-tired" and offered me another set of Nokian's for $83 each. Tire guys always have a ton of reasons why their tires don't hold up. The car's 10, yeah there's going to be a little play here and there. Anyway...

Has anyone else had this problem? I don't want to give them anymore business after two disappointments. I looked at the reviews on TireRack but an unsure what to purchase.

Thanks in advance!

First of all, let me say to Toyota Nation!

Next, I've got a couple of questions for you. How often do you have your tires rotated? When and/or how often have your had all four tires aligned?

Thanks for your replies -

After the Michelin's wore out, I became very aware of rotations and had it done with most oil changes. When I complained about the Nokian's wearing out, that was the first thing the salesman focused on. Fortunately I keep very good records and could prove they were rotated often. The only thing he noted was a minor rear end collision where there was no proof of alignment. Last year I put new rims on and I have noticed that the pressure is more stable so maybe that was part of it.

Since I am giving this car to my college student, and I know she won't have money to replace tires in 25K, I really need to make a good choice. Maybe I will give Michelin's another shot.

I used to have Michelin X-one tires in yr 99 - 2002 , & I used to drive through snow comfortably & always felt secure. They replaced X-one with Hydro Edge. Now a days I am looking for bargains,& not buying Michelins anymore.

Check tirerack.com for tire ratings.
One suggestion for a All-Season tire is Goodyear Triple Thread. It is rated #1 in All-season group in tirerack survey. UTQG (tire wear )is quite high 740!& therefore would last longer.

One thing you could do is to get a set of steel rims & separate Winter tires, which will serve you better during winter months.
